6 June 2024
Just before our exams, BHSCMC was delighted to invite our lovely therapy dog, Gua Gua, and volunteers from Animal Asia to meet our students. Our students enjoyed hanging out with our furry friend and learning more about how to properly interact with animals.
Karina from Animal Asia also provided us with valuable insights on animal welfare issues and efforts in Hong Kong. This visit was a wonderful opportunity for our students to destress while promoting compassion, empathy, and responsible pet ownership within our school community.

Games week (English)
Tired of tedious vocabulary drills? We’ve got you covered!
Our English teachers created an interactive and engaging "English Rainbow Tossing" booth that helped students practice prefixes and suffixes. Students would draw coins with root words and parts of speech, then toss them into the corresponding prefix or suffix rainbow. And for those moments of waiting in line, there are revision notes at the queuing stations to keep students productively occupied. This hands-on, gamified approach to vocabulary learning is sure to make it more enjoyable and effective for students. 😊

English Pastry Tea Party
Who doesn’t love a freshly baked egg tart? On 25 April, E-zone hosted a Pastry Tea Party with various kinds of pastry from all over the world! We tried croissants, French pamiers, macarons, even crumpets (to name a few)! Our students wrote their very own professional food reviews while enjoying a cup of tea.
Can you also name a pastry from Hong Kong (apart from egg tarts?)

The English Drama Society won 2nd prize at the Speak Up Act Up Improvised Drama Competition!
The competition is challenging because no props are allowed and they received the stimulus of the competition a week ago! The stimulus is a picture showing boats between Ap Lei Chau and Aberdeen. With loads of acting practices and rehearsals, the team nailed the competition with their performance named ‘The Mysterious Powder’.

Chinese New Year Carnival
Building upon the language and culture that students are already familiar with, such as Chinese New Year, students successfully wrote Red Banners (Fai Chun) in English, created firecracker crafts, and enjoyed matching games with pictures and fun facts. Happy Chinese New Year in advance! Wishing you good luck in the Year of the Dragon!

S6 SBA workplace activity
Preparing for the School-based Assessment can be boring, especially for S6 students who are now burying their heads in the past papers. What if we learn through activities? This year the novel chosen for our S6 SBA is ‘Devil Wears Prada’. To enhance S6 students’ understanding of the organizational structure of a fashion magazine company and the duties of each role, the teachers prepared some role play activities in which students needed to discuss and solve problems based on the scenarios given.
In one of the scenarios, the ‘staff’ even became models, wearing a new set of outfits for CNY and strutting down the runway!

RELAX!
CHIT CHAT!
LET’S CHILLAX!!!
What can be better treats than a cup of iced beverage and a bag of popcorn? Knowing that our students have long school days, the English Department prepared some snacks for the students at the English Café to recharge during lunch. Besides, students wrote positive messages on the ‘I CAN’ wall and draw lovely stickers to encourage one another. What about taking an instant film to capture all the joyful moments?

S1 Activity Day
In the first glance, English and Geography may sound entirely irrelevant. However, it is not true. Our S1 kids visited the Organic Farm in Yuen Long in November, learning a lot about how to protect our environment while learning many English words related to environment and organic produce. They even utilize the organic ingredient—leek to make dumplings for their lunch.

We are all over the MOON!
In our English Mid-Autumn Festival Activity, our teachers and students had a blast cracking lantern festival riddles about festival trivia and brain teasers!
Thank you everyone for participating in it and hope you all had fun! Special thanks to our Principal, Ms Chan! Congratulations to students who cracked the riddles and won a lantern! Happy Mid-Autumn Festival!
See you next year!

The first English Summer Camp was held successfully in the summer holiday! The English teachers prepared language games to consolidate what students have learnt throughout the year. In the 5-hour camp, students worked in teams to compete in the spelling race, finger-writing game and do voice overs for a movie, etc. Shall we do it again next year? Survey says ‘YES!’
Whole year activities-DramaVibe
Thanks to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust for their support, the DramaVibe@BHSCMC projects have come to an end. In the S4 Prototype, students had the opportunity to learn from traditional craftsmen about their skills and struggles. In the drama, they stepped into the shoes of small independent shop owners to promote their business. What’s more, they gained an understanding of traditional Chinese wedding culture when acting with the teachers! As for the S1 Prototype which aims to promote reading, students read a mystery story and they needed to find out who destroyed the strawberry and find ways to protect the garden. Could our students solve the mystery?
Watch the videos below to understand more about the DramaVibe prototypes!

The S5 project work entitled ‘Social enterprise’ has ended with an exhibition in which students create prototypes to illustrate how their innovations can help solve social problems. Apart from creativity, students showed team spirit and collaboration when coming up with their initial ideas. At last, ‘Trees Saver’ won the Teachers’ Choice Award. We learn English to solve real-life problems!

Spooky Halloween!
The English Department hold a very successful ‘Trick THEN Treat’ Activity at Halloween this year. S4 and S5 students made spooky paper masks in class and created their Halloween tongue twisters for the other forms to read. The playground was filled with ‘scary monsters’ who were going ‘trick THEN treating’.
Our NET teacher Mr. Ray also organized many game booths in the playground. Making paper spiders, throwing toy pumpkins and grabbing creepy crawling critters, the students were learning vocabulary while playing.
Did the students enjoy the activity? Check out the pictures below!
